Those dragons are genetically altered, their ancestors where taken as a hatchling and changed so that they wouldn't become larger than five feet or smaller than two. Although recorded cases showed also 'pet' dragons of six feet, those are few though and considered rare.
They come in every color you can think of, a 'defect' that sneaked its way in when the hatchlings their DNA was altered, but giving sometimes beautiful effects like metallic sheens that the original dragons often do not have.
Such dragons aren't that strong, but they still have quite the nasty bite that can leave behind infections if not cared for. Most of them can't breathe fire, but they can let out small flames using a lot of their energy.
Their wings almost seem to big for them, but more than the half of the population can't fly, only hover a feet or two over the ground.
Unthanks their small posture they can outlive their 'owner' with ease, if well cared for. If they aren't taken care of they will disappear to somewhere only they know off and most likely, outlive their previous owner too.
Though unthanks, they're very loyal, protective and sweet to their owner, like a faithful dog and most are threated that way, not that the pet dragons mind too much.
Everyone can get such a dragon, although one needs to pay some money down for it, their price range from 500 coins to 10.000 coins, a weird metallic for example will be a lot more than a dull brown.
